Behind Mr. Fab is David Cruey, although he might argue that David is the alter ego.

David is the prism. Mr. Fab is the brightest refraction.

Beautiful Delusions
Beautiful Delusions, 2018, is the interior counterpart to the photograph above: perception turned inward, imagination arguing with reality, illusion fractured into color.
The mind is its own prism. Thought becomes image; image becomes story; story changes how the world is seen.

THE MATERIAL
Pigment
Painting is where color, character, and story become physical. The Pop Skullture portraits move through Día de los Muertos energy, music, memory, humor, and companion poetry. They are less memorial than conversation, still alive on the canvas.
The hand matters. The mark matters. So does the evidence left behind when the work is finished.
THE CRAFT BENEATH THE IMPROVISATION
Ink
More than three decades in screen printing and visual production built the discipline beneath the strange. David has worked across screen printing, art direction, color separations, design, production problem-solving, Photoshop, and Illustrator, learning how an idea survives contact with ink, mesh, machinery, deadlines, and the physical world.
The tools changed. The eye kept learning. Technical knowledge became instinct, and instinct became another way of seeing.
THE INNER CURRENT
Reflection
Poetry became another material: rhythm, contradiction, faith, humor, philosophy, and connective thinking. Reflection here is not academic distance. It is the painter, printer, trickster, and believer looking through the same piece of glass.
THE CREATIVE TRAIL
The Muse
People, music, memory, photographs, mistakes, discoveries, failures, and unexpected moments all enter the work. The Study of the Muse follows that trail backward and forward. The road matters as much as the destination.

Nothing is separate until we stop looking for the connection.
David has never been particularly interested in staying in one lane. Painting becomes poetry. Poetry becomes design. An old photograph becomes a memoir. A plant becomes lineage. A joke becomes philosophy. A screen-printed shirt becomes an artifact.
The disciplines change. The instinct does not: look long enough and something connects.
